History in the Making: DMCI Joins the Metro Manila Subway Project's CP109 Groundbreaking Ceremony

By Christine Ave V. Tragura on September 18, 2026

D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI), as part of the Taisei Corporation-D. M. Consunji Inc. Joint Venture (TDJV), contractor for Contract Package 109 (CP109) of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), joined the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in the Groundbreaking Ceremony for CP109, covering One Underground Station (NAIA Terminal 3) and its Connecting Tunnel.

Held on September 16, 2026 at the NAIA Terminal 3 Open Parking Area in Pasay City, which will serve as the construction yard for the NAIA Terminal 3 Station, the ceremony was conducted pursuant to the directive for DOTr to go "Full Speed Ahead" in the implementation of railway projects nationwide.

The program included the Arrival of and Briefing to the President of the Republic of the Philippines, H.E. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr., followed by sealing of the Time Capsule containing the newspaper, blueprint, and coins and the Lowering of the Time Capsule, and a Sake Barrel Ceremony that symbolizes unity, new beginnings, and the opening of shared paths forward, today it stands as a powerful expression of the enduring collaboration between the Philippines and Japan. And lastly, messages from Pasay City Mayor Hon. Imelda "Emi" Calixto Rubiano, Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Japan, H.E. Ono Sho, and Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker H.E. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr. were delivered, evidence of the collaborative spirit behind this milestone.

According to DOTr, the commencement of works for CP109 marks another significant milestone toward the completion of the Metro Manila Subway Project: one of the boldest and most ambitious infrastructure undertakings of this administration. Long envisioned and carefully shaped over decades, the MMSP is a 33 km MRT system that will reshape our capital, how our capital moves, lives, and connects. Connecting Quezon City to NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay, the project will reduce travel time from over 1 hour 10 minutes to approximately 35 minutes once fully operational. Once completed, the project will deliver a more accessible, affordable, comfortable, and safe travel experience for Filipinos.

As part of TDJV, DMCI maintains its commitment to nation-building through excellence in engineering and construction, contributing to a project that will transform mobility across Metro Manila for generations to come.
