Ceremonial Track-laying for LRT Line 2- East Extension Project Package 3

By D.M. Consunji, Inc. on April 16, 2019

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter “Marubeni”) and D.M Consunji, Inc. (hereinafter “DMCI”), one of the largest engineering-based construction companies in the Philippines, have been awarded the Manila LRT Line 2 East Extension Project, an electrical and mechanical (hereinafter “E&M”) package for a 4km railway system extension with 2 additional stations eastwards (hereinafter “Project”) for Department of Transportation of the Republic of the Philippines. Last April 16, the Ceremonial Track-laying and Installation of the Electro-Mechanical System was held at the Emerald Station, Marcos Highway.

The activity was attended by Sec. Arthur P. Tugade and several dignitaries including the Ambassador of Japan, HE Koji Haneda. Also in attendance were the leaders of the LGUs of Marikina City and Antipolo City, namely Congressman Bayani Fernando (Marikina), Mayor Teodoro (Marikina City) and Mayor Ynares (Antipolo City). Also present was the chief reperesentative of JICA, Mr. Woshio Yada.

The current Manila LRT Line 2, which was awarded to Marubeni in 2000 and completed in 2004, is a 13.8km elevated metro line with 11 stations connecting east and west; Marubeni was responsible for the procurement of E&M systems, including track work and new rolling stock.

DMCI was the contractor for the LRT Line 2 East Extension’s viaduct and two additional stations – Emerald and Masinag. As the two stations are nearing completion, Marubeni and DMCI will be working together on the signalling, telecommunications and other electrical requirements of the new LRT Line 2 East Extension. This includes an automatic fare collection system, which will expedite transactions and avoid long lines in the stations when they become functional.

The project is expected to be finished by Q4 of 2020.
